Chiropractic Care Help with Allergies
September 6, 2018It’s that time of year again – runny nose. Sneezing. Coughing. Itchy, watery eyes – it seems at the end of every summer and beginning of fall, those with seasonal allergies are subjected to these irritating and sometimes painful symptoms, or at least some sort of combination of them. When these problems break out, they can make even the daily tasks difficult. Many have found a solution to this by heading to the nearest store to stockpile on over-the-counter antihistamines, which is typically enough to fend off the issues – at least for a time.
These types of drugs are highly temporary in the sense that they may clear the symptoms for several hours until the effects wear off, but they must then be ingested consistently to be fully effective. However, there is certainly good news for those struggling to keep the sneezes in and resisting the urge to feverishly scratch their skin. Perhaps “seasonal allergies” and “back and joint issues” may not seem like a ringing connection to the everyday allergy sufferer; however, scientific evidence has indicated that a visit to the chiropractor can go a long way in achieving better health and happiness throughout typical allergy season.
Chiropractic Care is Linked to Immune System Care
Antihistamines are helpful but unnatural for the body. Ingesting drugs repeatedly can unsurprisingly lead to a variety of negative side effects because their ingredients contain foreign chemicals that the body isn’t constructed to handle. In one study, 1,028 people with some kind of allergies were given physical chiropractic exams and care. The exams showed that 98% of the study’s participants had a common misalignment in their vertebrae. After their realignment procedure, 88% of those with dermatitis (causes the skin to become red, itchy, swollen, and can sometimes result in blisters) had a dramatic decrease in symptoms related to the ailment. Additionally, 71% of these participants had a generally better overall skin condition following the realignment.
Chiropractic care does not specifically target and eliminate whatever agents cause allergic breakouts and tendencies, or even determine what those might be. However, it does adjust your vertebrae, thus straightening out the central nervous system. Since the body’s nervous system is directly related to the immune system, a healthy back can mean a healthier body overall.
If one’s back is out of line or disorderly, the immune system will have a more difficult time removing allergens from the body. It is rather unlikely that any one person’s back is ever in perfect shape because the human body is under constant physical stress on a daily basis, and the back is what’s responsible for supporting it every day. Therefore, neglecting visits to the chiropractor would spell bad news for allergy sufferers because doing so means a less efficient and effective immune system.
Chiropractic Care Can Benefit Everyone
Oftentimes a chiropractor appointment is far from the first idea that comes to mind when sneezing up a storm and rubbing the eyes until they become blurry, but even those not suffering from severe back pain can see huge benefits from consistently visiting a trusted chiropractor. Statistics show that 40% of all humans live with some type of issue caused by allergies, but taking a trip to the chiropractor can significantly decrease or even eliminate those persistent allergic symptoms.
Those suffering from allergies may find that a trip to the chiropractor will simultaneously improve back pain while minimizing issues related to seasonal allergies.
