Our Goals For You
Our goal here at Van Ness Chiropractic is to make you feel at home. Your comfort is our top priority. Of course, we’re also in the business of getting you out of pain and back into your own life. Together, we can achieve more than just this… we can exceed all your health expectations!
Your First Visit
We provide a welcoming atmosphere, integrity, and commitment to satisfaction and excellence. We are proud to have served the Barrington area for over 19 years.
We foster a caring and nurturing environment, one to eliminate any apprehension and put you at ease. When you arrive, our experienced staff will greet you with a warm, friendly smile and accept your new patient paperwork that you have downloaded and completed from our website.
We don’t take a cookie-cutter approach to your health. Your health needs differ from your spouse’s, your children’s, and certainly from the needs of those in the waiting room with you. For this reason, we always take time to review your case and your X-rays. We conduct a complete evaluation. With a comprehensive approach like this, we’re confident in making the right decisions for YOU, giving you the best care possible.
Your first visit helps us to discover how we can help you. We’ll learn about your personal situation so that we can provide you with a detailed explanation of all we do. This first visit takes about 45-60 minutes. A complete health history, focused chiropractic examination, movement assessment and any necessary X-rays will be performed.
Your Second Visit
When you come back to Van Ness Chiropractic for your second visit, we’ll fully discuss your pain points and goals. After having had the opportunity to review your X-rays, movement assessment, and chiropractic examination, we’ll be able to discuss how we will be able to help you. We’ll talk about our recommendations for care and different plan options that are available to you.
Is Van Ness Chiropractic the right fit for you, your health, and your wellness? If the answer is “Yes!”, we’ll begin care with you immediately. You’ll receive your first chiropractic adjustment, and, before you leave, we’ll schedule your recommended follow up visits for chiropractic care, massage therapy, or rehabilitation.
Follow-up visits are typically 15-30 minutes in length. We value your time, so we’ve designed our practice to be very efficient. Of course, the length of visits will vary depending on treatment and therapy. If you’ve had a health change since your last visit, please let us know.
Recommendations For Care
Ready for a long, happy life? We believe that both optimal health and wellness are essential elements for that to happen. That’s why we offer two different types of care:
1. Relief or Corrective Care
Most times, you (and patients like you) come in because you’re in pain. You want to feel better… so that’s where we begin! We’ll uncover the underlying cause of the problem, suggest a plan for correcting the problem and producing results quickly, and offer you ways to participate in your own recovery.
2. Wellness Care
At Van Ness Chiropractic, we want to see you take a proactive approach toward health, staying active and creating balance in life. Instead of waiting to feel sick or in pain, be proactive: support and maintain your nervous system and spine with on-going wellness care.

Serves: 4 Servings
1 lb. shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 Tbsp olive oil
2 Tbsp chili paste
3 Tbsp ginger sesame dressing (see below)
2 Tbsp lime juice
3 cups shredded napa cabbage
2 cups shredded red cabbage
1 cup shredded carrots
1 cup sugar snap peas, thinly sliced
¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
2 Tbsp fresh mint, chopped
For the Ginger Sesame Dressing:
2 Tbsp rice vinegar
1 Tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce
1 clove garlic
1 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp fresh ginger, peeled and minced
¼ tsp. toasted sesame oil
3 Tbsp olive oil
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Toss shrimp with olive oil on a large baking sheet and bake for about 5 to 7 minutes, until shrimp are pink and cooked through. Remove from oven and set aside.
To make the ginger sesame dressing, combine all ingredients in a small jar with a sealed lid and shake well until combined. I also use this jar to store any extra dressing to use for the week.
To make the sauce for the shrimp, whisk together chili paste, 3 tablespoons of the ginger sesame dressing and lime juice. Add cooked shrimp and toss to combine; set aside.
For the salad, combine shredded cabbage, carrots, snap peas, cilantro and mint in a large bowl and toss with the extra ginger sesame dressing. Top with cooked shrimp and enjoy!
If making this salad for lunches, store the dressing in a sealed jar and drizzle over salad just before eating so salad stays fresh.
